We’re excited to announce that Last Dream 2 will allow the player to customize gear bonuses by utilizing a gem-socketing system! Gem socketing will replace the synthesized gear system of Last Dream and Last Dream: World Unknown. While the synthesized gear gave the player some level of choice in their gear bonuses, it didn’t quite fit with the level of player-driven character building (ability points) that we wanted. Thus, for Last Dream 2 we wanted a system that allowed more player choice and also translates across the gear tiers. Socketed equipment with bonuses based on the type and size of gemstone as well as the bezel setting allow for the Player more customization of their character build in a way that is simple and does not become obsolete as the Player gets higher-tier equipment. But enough about why we wanted to change from synthesized gear over to customizable socketed gear, let’s get into the specifics!
Each piece of gear in the game, from normal gear bought in stores to unique Set equipment in treasure chests, will have a single socket (the exception is two-handed weapons which will have 2 sockets). The Player will find gems in treasure chests, excavated chambers, and from a new mining mini-game. A given gem can then be mounted into a bezel in the Socketing menu; an early prototype of that menu is shown below where a Tiny Ruby is selected to be mounted with a Moonstone bezel into the Rusty Sword. There are 5 different gem types and 5 different bezels for 25 unique combinations, each of which give a different bonus. Rumor has it that there might be an extremely rare gem in Gaia with powerful, unique bonuses that the resourceful explorer may find in their travels, but such rumors should hardly be given any credence and are just the mad ravings of gem-crazed gemologists.
Check back tomorrow for Part II of the Equipment Socketing post!
