Equipment Socketing System – Part II

To gain the bonus, the gem+bezel combination is socketed into the equipment at the gemsmith shop for a price or by using an Engineer skill, Gemologist. Conversely, gems and bezels can be removed from equipment as well. Each gem+bezel combinations will have different bonuses, as shown in the table, and the size of the bonus is controlled by the gem size: tiny, small, medium, large, giant, and perfect. Gem sizes found in treasure chests and in the mining mini-game will have varying sizes and gems of larger sizes up to giant gems can be crafted at the gemsmith by combining 3 gems from the next-lowest tier. So 3 medium Topaz can be combined into a single large Topaz… for a nominal fee of course. In this way the Player can upgrade their gems to giant gems. To make perfect gems the player must have 3 giant gems as well as a special limited synthesis ingredient.

The bonuses that the socketed gems imbue on the Player cannot be removed by any skill unless the equipment is stolen, destroyed, or otherwise removed during the battle. One can easily see how a Player could take a Black Mage and massively increase their, say, fire damage (at the cost of more defensive possibilities) by socketing several pieces of gear with Ruby Moonstones, several with Ruby Sunstones, and the rest with Sapphire Onyx gems. Similarly, a Player could significantly reduce the grind-time required by equipping multiple Ruby Black Opals (and Sapphire Black Opals) on any heroes that need to level up. The gemstone system allows the Player strategic flexibility as the Party’s situation changes during the game; we hope you enjoy the new gear system as much as we do!
