Each character must journey through two separate “dungeons” in order to complete their prologue in Last Dream II. For the Gray Mage, his second “dungeon” is the Black Forest which is so named due to the high, thick canopy that darkens it day and night.
For the Black Forest, we were able to exploit the powerful Godot lighting system to create a variety of effects such as glowing green fireflies, perched crows with gleaming red eyes, and radiant pink plants. Another subtle effect is the water itself. Using a Godot shader, we’re able to animate the water to show it slowly sloshing along in the creek.Â
Our current work is completing the battle animations of the enemies in the Black Forest. We’ve just completed setting up a Skeleton and “Inverse Kinematic” chains for the Mantis enemy and one of our next posts will show some of the neat effects that it allows.
