Completing the White Mage skill tree has been more challenging that the other classes we’ve worked on to this point because of the different structure of the skill upgrades. In an earlier post, we discussed how Mage skills would have both Major and Minor upgrades. After some careful consideration, we’ve decided that the Minor upgrades are overkill and that in order to balance the Physical class skill SP cost with that of the Mages, we needed to drop the Minor upgrades.
What this means is that a skill such as Heal will still have upgrades to Heal II, Heal III, etc. (and that you will always use the most powerful version of that spell); however, the Minor upgrades that would allow smaller upgrades to modify Heal II or Heal III are no more. Another reason for doing away with the Minor upgrades is that we struggled to keep the Minor upgrades distinct from the Major upgrades.
But don’t worry, even with the removal of the Minor upgrade for Mage skills, the White Mage still has 28 unique skills along with 134 Major upgrades (which is far more choice that either Last Dream I or World Unknown offered). And these numbers don’t include the class upgrades specific skills that are only available after becoming a Priestess or Physician.
